Great things are happening at the United Methodist Church in Engadine. Bible School, called "Club Can Do," is taking over the church Monday, August 21, through Friday, August 25, from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Registration will be Monday, August 21, from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. All children ages 4 through 11 are invited to attend. The lessons will show how the Can-Do Kids can make a difference in the world around them. The kids will enjoy songs, games, and crafts.

Friday, August 25, the last day of camp, they will visit the GarLyn Zoological Park in Naubinway. For more information, call (906) 4776766.

The Engadine/Naubinway area has started a "West Mackinac Garden Club" and will occasionally be sponsoring tours of the surrounding gardens. Their last tour was Saturday, August 5, and we hope that they have a fall tour so that those who missed the other tour can attend one.

Five of the members of this Club have completed the Michigan State University Extension Master Gardener program, and they have information about the program if anyone is interested. The group recently enjoyed creating garden hose wreaths, which will be available at the Engadine Methodist Church at W13970 Park Avenue in Engadine.

Those who are interested in joining the group may contact the Club presidents, Caroll Harper at (906) 477-6163 or Karen McKay at (906) 477-6368.

Our area will be taken over by Robin Hood and his Merry Men next week. The Missoula Children's Theatre will be holding auditions at the auditorium in Newberry Monday, August 14, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. All students entering first through eighth grade are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary.

The team arrives in town with set, lights, costumes, props, and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play, except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50 to 60 local students to perform. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented on Saturday. This event is brought to you by the Newberry Schools Volunteer Organization (NSVO). Makes me wish I was back in school so I could be in the cast.

This theatre group has been active for more than 30 years, traveling from Montana to Japan. They have 42 teams of tour actor/directors. The shows are all original adaptations of classic children's stories and fairy tales. The actor/directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week of August 14 to 18 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day. Robin Hood will be presented Saturday, August 19, at the Bystrom Auditorium.

The last Wednesday of every month the Engadine Methodist Church is serving a free meal at the church from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The entire community is invited. There will be good food, fellowship, and entertainment. Everyone is welcome. This is part of a program at the church, where they are focusing on families and the community. See you there.

The Curtis Community Art Council has been holding "Music in

the Park" on Wednesday evenings. They've had some great groups entertain at this event. The final Music in the Park performance will take place at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 23, with the group "Driver," a rock and roll group from Manistique. The performances are free, but donations to the Curtis Community Council will be accepted.

The Engadine Area Farmer's Market opened for the season Saturday, August 5, and will continue through October. They will have their wares on display from 9 a.m. to noon through October at the Millpond Park Pavilion in Engadine, behind the Garfield Township Hall. Local growers will be selling fresh vegetables, fruits, organic meats, eggs, decorative items, and fresh flowers. They also have available pre-packaged natural foods and seasonal items.

Newton Township may finally realize a long-awaited desire to lease Scots Point Park, located at the end of the South Gould City Road and Lake Michigan. The beach and lakeshore has long been used and enjoyed by the natives of Newton Township and travelers. It is a beautiful area.

Arrangements are in the process of being made with the Department of Natural Resources to help this become a reality, and the residents are hoping their dream will finally come true.

The McMillan United Methodist Church is holding an all-you-caneat fish fry and bake sale Friday, August 11, starting at 4:30 p.m. The menu includes fish, potatoes, coleslaw, baked beans, rolls, dessert, and beverage. The activities will be held at the Township Hall in McMillan.

Happy birthday to the number one resident of this house, our granddaughter, Danielle, who turns 19 August 10. Happy birthday also to Shane Baker August 12 and LeAnn Gribbell August 15.

Stay safe and stay well. See you next week.
