$1,500 Raised for L.C. Foundation The Les Cheneaux Education Foundation raised more than $1,500 from its summer table auction, which ended Saturday, July 29 at Les Cheneaux Community Library in Cedarville. Bids for the 17 artistdecorated tables ranged from $50 to more than $400, and artists who created the tables were given 50 percent of the sale price. The school's wood shop class donated the tables, which it made from oak, birch, and other wood. The Foundation's share of the proceeds will be used for cultural enrichment programs, arts education grants, general education grants, and the Les Cheneaux Summer Theater program. The group also awards scholarships to local students for fine and performing arts camps. The tables were distributed August 3. "We're particularly grateful to the artists who so willingly donated their time and creativity to this project," said Foundation board member Kate Ter Haar. Joanna Izzard, another board member, said the Library already has agreed to host the auction next year, when a different kind of decorated furniture, possibly chairs, will be offered. Anyone who wants to decorate a piece can contact any Education Foundation board member. |
