DeTour Area
By Barbara Buschbacher 297-8075 bbann@sault.com

Now that the fall season has officially arrived, it's time to put away the summer furniture and pull the last of the summer plants from the garden. It's also a time for eating apples, drinking cider, and whatever else one does in the fall.

Happy Apple Day in DeTour Saturday, September 23, was a success and a lot of fun. It was great to see everyone with faces painted by Olive Warner. The carmel apples were delicious, as well as steamed apples and apple squares made by Clare Schultz and Mary Folkner. The DeTour Homemakers made wonderful elephant ears that were enjoyed by all.

Congratulations to Taci Koivish, who won the pie-baking contest. There were six entries. The judges had a difficult task but enjoyed every bite of every pie. Tawney Saylor came a distance to be a judge. Tom Lehman, Amy Weston, and Dennis Ridge - good job!

Jim Barrette won the beautiful original painting donated by Renee Norton. Roger Newell won the 50/50 drawing.

Winners of the pie-eating contest were Lizzie Lehman and Tyler Soule. Tyler is only eight years old. Good for him.

The vendors did well. Mother Nature cooperated as the weather turned warm and sunny.

Attention all Community Choir members and those who plan to join choir, rehearsals for the Christmas program will begin Monday, October 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church. All that is required is your interest in singing and love of music.

If you love to dance, any style, join in the fun for an evening of square dancing Saturday, October 14, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Village Hall. This evening is sponsored by the DeTour Seniors Club. Back by popular demand is Paul Williams, a professional caller. Admission is $5. Refreshments will be available.

If you haven't already attended a girls basketball game, mark your calendar to attend the next home game, Thursday, September 28, at 6 p.m. The girls are doing a great job, so please give them your support by attending their games. It's a great evening out.
