She will speak about how to write about one's family history. Her recently published book, "Joe O'Malley & Us," is a history of her parents, who were married in 1912, and their seven children. Her father was a Sergeant Major in the Canadian cavalry and moved the family to Detroit, Ferndale, and Cheboygan. Mrs. Callander has written two screen plays and an anthology of women overcoming obstacles, among other works. Her husband, Bruce Callander, is a columnist and a former U.S. Air Force bombardier who writes on assignment for the Air Force. He is an authority on Wright brothers history. The meeting will include an update on the fundraising activities for Mackinaw Historic Village. A raffle is planned with a grand prize of $3,000 and other cash prizes. Tickets will cost $75 per person, plus $15 per guest. The Historical Society meeting is open to all, free of charge. |
