Autism Suppor Group Develops

A support group for parents who care for children with autism is being developed in the St. Ignace area. The initial, organizational meeting will be Thursday, October 5, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the St. Ignace Public Library.

The meeting is open to anyone, said organizer Gia Lopez.

"The goal is to get a group started," she said.

There are a number of families in the area who could benefit from an autism support group, but the closest established group is located in Sault Ste. Marie. This may be too far for some area residents to travel, Mrs. Lopez added.

The meeting will serve as a forum for parents with autistic children to meet each other, discuss their circumstances, exchange information, and set dates and times for future meetings.

For more information, contact Mrs. Lopez at 643-9456.
