1958 Oldsmobiles Sought for 2007 Parade

A phalanx of 103 white 1958 Oldsmobiles crossed the Mackinac Bridge during bridge celebrations in June, 1958. The bridge officially opened to traffic November 1, 1957.
The search is on for drivers, queens, dignitaries, memorabilia, and the cars that participated in the opening ceremonies of the Mackinac Bridge in June, 1958. Queens representing each of Michigan's 83 counties crossed the bridge in 83 white Oldsmobile convertibles. Twenty similar vehicles carried dignitaries.

Following in that tradition, a parade of convertibles is planned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the bridge in July 2007, with one convertible representing each year from 1957 through 2007.

A parade spot is being held open for one of the original white Oldsmobiles, and planners are hoping to find one of the cars.

The Mackinac Bridge 50th Celebration Committee is working with Ed Reavie of Nostalgia Productions, Inc. on the event. They also are looking for the people who rode in the parade, and souvenirs from the bridge opening.

Those who have information are asked to contact Mr. Reavie at (906) 643-8087 or www.ereavie@ nostalgia-prod.com.
