Snow-related Activies Planned for Women at U.P. State Park

A weekend of snow-related activities for women is planned for January 27 and 28 at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the western Upper Peninsula. Sponsored by the Department of Natural Resources Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) Program, the event is designed to acquaint women 18 and older with cross-country, downhill, and telemark skiing, and snowshoeing.

The weekend will begin with a brief Saturday morning meeting, followed by cross-country ski lessons and gliding time on the trails. Downhill or telemark ski lessons are planned for the afternoon, followed by a lantern-lit cross-country ski in the evening and a snowshoe hike Sunday.

The registration fee is $100 and includes three meals, snacks, lift tickets, and trail passes.

The registration form is available on the DNR Web site at www.michigan.gov/dnr. Click on the “Learning Corner” to locate the page. More information is available from Ann Wilson at (906) 228-6561 or Bob Wild at (906) 885-5275.
