DeKeysers Celebrate 50th Anniversary

James “Jim” and Leona Leonard DeKeyser of St. Ignace celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Thursday, November 23.
The couple, their extended family, and their wedding attendants gathered for a Thanksgiving dinner at Horseshoe Bay Restaurant in the Kewadin Shores Inn in St. Ignace.
They were married November 23, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeTour Village. Geraldine (nee Leonard) Huyck was the maid of honor. The late Norman DeKeyser was the best man. Other attendants
included Martha (nee Stevenson) King and Calvin Prout, while Diane Adams and Sharon Socia served as flower girls.
Mrs. DeKeyser is the daughter of the late Herman and Beatrice Leonard. Mr. DeKeyser is the son of the late George DeKeyser and Eunice Bodart DeKeyser.
The couple has lived in St. Ignace for the past 50 years. Mr. DeKeyser retired from George’s Auto Parts, and Mrs. DeKeyser retired from the Mackinac Bridge Authority.
They reared five children and have 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, including Deborah Nichols of Grand Ledge and her children, Dustin, Darwin, and Jenna Rae; James and Sheryl (nee Marshall) DeKeyser of St. Ignace, and their children, Nicole, Martin, and Brent; Christopher and Lana (nee Greve) DeKeyser of Coldwater and their children, Lindee VanDellen, Landan, Shannon, and Carter, and Gwen and Bill Pechta of St. Ignace, and their children, Alyssa and William. Their son, Darryl, passed away in 1969. Their great-grandchildren are Hunter and Mia Martin.

The DeKeysers are members of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church. They enjoy visiting family members and friends, and they like to travel, in addition to their many hobbies.
