Both the varsity and junior varsity girls basketball players from St. Ignace were honored during an awards banquet Sunday, December 17.

"This has been a very emotional and memorable season for both teams," said Saints Coach Dorene Ingalls. "The varsity and junior varsity teams became like one squad during the season, as we practiced together due to small numbers on both teams."

The squads lost the services of Jodie Langstaff during the season, and, after the season was completed, Stacee Schnicke was involved in a car accident.

Coach Ingalls received the Gil Heard Courageous Award presented by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

Mr. Heard was a member of the association, the Upper Peninsula Hall of Fame and Sports Information Director at Northern Michigan University.
