Mackinac Island Sweeps Three Basketball Rivals In games preceeding their battle against Maplewood Baptist, the Mackinac Island Lakers basketball team swept Hannahville Friday, December 8 and Saturday, December 9, and beat Munising Baptist Tuesday, December 12. Mackinac Island trailed 21-14 at halftime and 34-27 after three quarters before outscoring the Hannahville Soaring Eagles 19-9 in the final period to earn the 46-43 victory Friday evening. Lakers Stats: Michael Gamble, 18 points; Wood Beardsley, 14 points, 17 rebounds, four steals, three assists; Tyler McLean, eight points, three steals, Riley Chaffee, four points, nine rebounds, three steals; Robert Chambers, two points. The Lakers held a 28-25 scoring edge at halftime during Saturday’s bout. Mackinac Island extended that lead with a scoring advantage of 34- 18 in the second half, lifting the Lakers to a 62-43 NLL win. "The team distributed the ball better after the first game of the season," said Lakers Head Coach Jim Fisher. "The team has played well, but there are parts of the game we need to work on."
