Engadine

By Julie Freeman 477-6959 jf@portup.com

We've received some snow, but for those who were enjoying the nice weather, a good way to think of it is, the first day of spring is only 10 weeks away.

The Engadine Sports Boosters, coaches, and athletes are conducting their annual pizza kit fundraiser. Orders may be placed until Thursday, January 25, and kits will be delivered Friday, February 2, and Saturday, February 3, just in time for the Super Bowl. Proceeds will go to support all of the athletic programs at Engadine. Everyone's continued support is appreciated.

The Curtis Public Library will host an open house Thursday, January 11, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to show off its new, custom-built, carved red oak door. There will be door prizes and refreshments.

The annual snowmobile ride to support the Special Olympics and other programs for the mentallyimpaired in Luce, Mackinac, Schoolcraft, and Chippewa counties will be held Friday, January 12, through Sunday, January 14, and various events are planned in the Curtis area. I was told this event will still be held, even if there isn't any snow. This is a wonderful program, and it does make a difference in someone's life. It is sponsored by the Curtis Cruisers and the Curtis community in cooperation with the Utica Knights of Columbus Council 2950. If you would like to make a cash donation or donate any items for the auction Sunday, drop them off at the Whitefish Inn or call Ron Wiegand at (906) 586-9507 or Karen Riley at (906) 586-6113. Enjoy a fish dinner Friday evening from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Whitefish Inn in Curtis, Pine Bluff Resort and Restaurant, just north of Curtis, Loehr's Café in Curtis, the Jolly Inn in Germfask, or at the Hide-A-Way Bar and Grill in McMillan. Head to Loehr's Café for breakfast Saturday. Enjoy music that evening at the Whitefish Inn beginning at 9 p.m.

Sunday, January 14, you don't want to miss the wonderful auction at the Whitefish Inn beginning at 7 p.m. If you are unable to attend and would like to make a donation, please make checks payable to Mentally Impaired Programs and mail to: Ron Wiegand, P.O. Box 517, Curtis, MI 49820.

Karl Bohnak will be visiting Engadine Library Saturday, January 13, at 11 a.m. Mr. Bohnak will tell local storm stories, and will also be signing copies of his book, "So Cold A Sky."
