Walk forWarmth To Raise Home Heating Funds Sat.

Community Action Agency is holding its annual Mackinac County Walk for Warmth in St. Ignace Saturday, February 3. The goal is to raise money to benefit people in need of home heating assistance, as well as to promote awareness regarding the needs of the less fortunate in the community, said Don Wright, outreach worker for Community Action Agency.

The walk begins at 11 a.m. at the Community Action building on Reagon Street in St. Ignace. Participants will walk to First National Bank's main office on State Street and back to the Community Action building, then enjoy a chili dinner and silent auction.

The recent onset of cold winter weather has prompted some area residents to call upon Community Action Agency for information about heating assistance, Mr. Wright said.

Walk for Warmth participants who obtain sponsors carry signs acknowledging them, Mr. Wright said. All funds generated this way, and via donations, go directly toward assisting people in need.

Local businesses have also allowed the agency to set up donation canisters in the area, Mr. Wright said, and several businesses have made pledges.

All donations are tax deductible.

Information about local programs providing home heating assistance is listed this week on page 13 of The St. Ignace News.
