Panthers Post First EUPC Win

McKinley Portice, Pickford McKinley Portice, Pickford The Pickford Panthers posted their first Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference win of the season with a 66-53 decision over the DeTour Raiders Friday, January 26.

The Panthers outscored the Raiders 58-28 from the field, while the Raiders held a 25-8 advantage from the free throw line. Pickford scored 28 field goals, two treys, and made eight of 13 free throws. DeTour made 13 field goals, two triples, and shot 25 of 36 (69 percent) from the line.

DeTour, 2-2 in the conference and 5-5 overall, led the host Panthers 14-9 after the first eight minutes and maintained a five point lead at halftime after both teams scored 17 points in the second quarter.

The Panthers, 1-2 in the EUPC and 2-7 on the season, held the Raiders to six points in the third quarter while scoring 18 points to take a 44-37 advantage into the final period. Pickford closed out the contest outscoring DeTour 22- 16 in the fourth quarter to record its first league win.
