Keep the Pressure on Legislators To See Change in School Funding
      Michigan is in a financial bind. Gary Olsen, director of the Senate Fiscal Agency, just released information that the state's deficit stands at $819 million - $442 million from the general fund and $337 million from the school aid fund. By law, the state cannot run a deficit budget.

      Bitter cold weather has finally arrived with this month of February. No matter what the groundhog said, it is winter and I'm sure it will stay that way for more than six weeks. On Sunday morning, I awoke to find my thermometer reading 12 degrees below zero! I hated to let my little dog out, but at times it is necessary.

      Welcome to the frozen, white, below-zero Upper Peninsula. We should know better than to expect anything else this time of the year. Traveling was a little dicey though, as we went along with our son, Dave, who is finally home from his tour of duty in Iraq; we returned our grandson to Indian River following a weekend visit.

Engadine
      Brrrr... It's cold outside. As I'm sitting here, next to a warm wood fire, it's five below zero outside. Some places are seeing lower temperatures than that. Saturday, February 17, will be the 13th Annual Curtis Winter Carnival, sponsored by the Curtis Area Chamber of Commerce, on the South Manistique Lake ice in downtown Curtis.

      115 Years Ago The St. Ignace News Saturday, February 6, 1892 J.H. Browne's theatre company will probably reach here in April. Ice harvesting has commenced, the M.L. Company and D.S.S.&A. Railroad Company have filled their houses. None of our businessmen complain of hard times at present - still, business is not rushing, by any means.
