Tuesday, May 8, is the school election. There are three candidates: Lynn VanAlstine, Karen Aldridge, and Ron Papin vying for two seats. Other issues on the ballot are the annual renewal of the school's 18-mill levy on all nonhomestead properties.

Also included is a special education millage request from the EUPISD for 0.75 mill for three years.

You may cast your vote at the polls located in the DeTour Village Hall, not at the school.

A friend, while cleaning out his attic, came across a flyer, "Red Owl Gold Rush Days." The former Red Owl store is now known as Cedarville Foods. The theme for the flyer was patterned after the television series, "The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters," starring Dan O'Herliny and Kurt Russell. We chuckled at the food prices on this old flyer.

For example, a four-pound bag of Red Delicious apples for 49¢. A head of cauliflower was only 29¢. Round steak was listed for 79¢ a pound, and a chuck roast for 49¢ cents a pound. Sliced bacon was 49¢ cents a pound, and a 10-ounce package of Longhorn cheese 39¢ cents.

Over the weekend, Bill and Nancy Mordecai entertained in their beautiful, newly renovated home. Nancy supervised the first annual street art festival in DeTour last summer. An art collector, she showed some of her collections. Her hangings and fine sculptures were most impressive. Nancy, with Bill assisting, will once again supervise the Street Art Festival in DeTour Saturday, June 30.

A thought: If you have something to say, to do, or to write, do it today, for in life there is not always a second chance.
