Several People Face Charges of Stolen Goods Ring in Kincheloe

Several people in Kincheloe are facing charges related to an alleged stolen goods ring. Christopher Lee Downs, 31, of Kincheloe, was sentenced to 10 years to 30 years in prison Tuesday, April 24, by 50th Circuit Court Judge Nicholas Lambros. Mr. Downs pleaded guilty to the charge of criminal enterprise and being a habitual offender (second) in March, said Chippewa County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Peppler.

Charges are pending against others who allegedly participated in the criminal enterprise with Mr. Downs, including Reese Thompson, 32, of Kincheloe, who is charged with felony receiving and concealing; Anthony LaPlant, 18, of Kincheloe, charged with receiving and concealing; Alan Miller, 18, of Kincheloe, charged with aiding and abetting in the breaking and entry of a building with intent; Heather Forgrave, 22, of Kincheloe, charged with receiving and concealing; Edward Downs III, 33, of Sault Ste. Marie, charged with aiding and abetting and breaking and entry of a building with intent; Amy Downs, 27, of Kincheloe, charged with receiving and concealing. The charges of receiving and concealing for these individuals are for goods over $1,000 but less than $20,000.

In an unrelated criminal matter, Ryan Kabke, 23, of Sault Ste. Marie, pleaded guilty to criminal enterprise, a felony carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, after admitting to breaking into at least 23 automobiles and homes over a twomonth period in the areas of Raber Subdivision, the Milligan Road area in Bay Mills, and the Riverside Drive area of Sault Ste. Marie. He is jailed awaiting sentencing. Codefendants in the matter, Scott Franklin, 24, of Sault Ste. Marie, and Timothy Peltier, 17, of Sault Ste. Marie, have cases pending in 50th Circuit Court, Mr. Peppler reported.
