Rexton-Garnet
Breath deeply, and take a walk to absorb the smells, sounds, and sights only the Upper Peninsula can provide. In May, the days that are not busy, or do not have an event planned, are few and far between.
The Hudson Township board, at its monthly meeting, made note of the Department of Natural Resources weekend clean-up event scheduled for Friday, May 18, and Saturday, May 19, along the back roads. Items found for disposal can be taken to the Art Mills residence in Rexton. Mr. Mills has donated the drop-off site, as well as being willing to take metal to the nearest site for disposal.
Hudson Township will host its own annual clean-up day Saturday, May 12, beginning at 9 a.m., with Beaudoin Sanitation on site to take the contents of each pickup truck.
Some things are not allowed for disposal, so please check with a township official to see what is allowed.
Mackinac County residents may travel free of charge to Mackinac Island Saturday, May 12, with Star Line Ferry in St. Ignace.
"Memories from the Attic" mother and daughter tea, sponsored by the Rexton and Naubinway Mennonite Churches, will be Wednesday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at the Hiawatha Sportsman's Club activities building.
Graduation ceremonies will be Friday, June 8, for the Class of 2007 at Engadine High School. Tiny town congratulations are extended to our local graduates: Nicole Benoit, David Derusha, Elicia Derusha, April Franklin, Sung Hart, Grayson Hood, Kristiena Jackson, Rose Paquin, Summer Tippett, and Ronnie Weger. Katie Kerridge, the daughter of Larry and Barb Kerridge, is class valedictorian. My, how these youngsters have grown from kindergarten to graduation in a flash.
Happy Mother's Day to my mom, Nona Fraleigh, and to all the grandmothers, mothers-in-law, daughters, aunts, nieces, and sisters out there. May the years ahead be filled with nothing but good things.
Happy birthday wishes to our neighbor, Karen Hins, May 7, to Grace Formolo May 8, Larry Kerridge, Mike Demarest, and a dear friend and neighbor, Dorothy Paquin, May 10, Cheryl Stephenson May 12, and Jo Prater and Beth Hins May 13.
Condolences to the family of longtime Garnet resident Leon Patterson, who passed away last week, and to Deb DeWyse on the passing of her mom, Joyce Palo, also last week.
