Jamie Krug Fires One-Hitter

Jamie Krug fired a five inning one-hitter in the Saints' 13-2 win over the Comets in the opener. St. Ignace scored one in the first, five in the third, two in the fourth and fifth, and three in the sixth.

In the nightcap, St. Ignace scored three runs in the first inning, five in the second, sixth in the fifth, and one in the sixth en route to a 15-6 non-league win.

The Comets were led by Katie Smydra with three hits and two runs, while Bethany Campbell, Mollie Frye, Renee Yax, and Kristina Heilman scored one run each. The Comets scored two runs in the first inning, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one sixth.

Saints Take Two From Comets

The Saints boys baseball team posted two non-league wins against the Comets behind the pitching of Jeffrey Gamble in a 7-2 win in the first game, and Stephen Bielat in a 12-9 Saints victory.

In the opener, St. Ignace scored in five of six innings, with single runs in the first, third, and sixth innings, and two in the fourth and fifth innings.

The St. Ignace Saints boys baseball team suffered a Straits Area Conference twinbill defeat at home to the Rogers City Hurons, 8-4 and 8-6, Thursday, May 3.

In the opener, the teams battled to a 1-1 score after the first inning before the Hurons scored five runs in the second inning and added two more runs in the fifth. The Saints notched one run in the fourth and two in the fifth.

During the nightcap, Rogers City scored eight runs in the first three innings, while St. Ignace scored two runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.

The Saints' comeback in the sixth inning fell short as Brandon Steiner led off with a single and Derek Rountree hit what fans thought was a game-tying two-run home run, however, the umpire ruled the ball foul and the Hurons hung on for the win.
