Kara Griffin, Justin Baker Named Cedarville's Senior Athletes of the Year
      Kara Griffin and Justin Baker were named senior athletes of the year during Cedarville High School's annual athletic awards banquet Wednesday, May 23. Unsung Hero Award Juniors Jason Duncan and Caitlin Wright were recipients of a new award, Cedarville Unsung Hero, in memory of Charlie Paquin and Wally Smith.

Trojans Boys, Panthers Girls Capture EUPC Track Titles
      The Cedarville Trojans boys and Pickford Panthers girls track and field teams captured the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference Championships at the Panthers Track Complex Friday, May 25. Cedarville's boys team tallied 107 points, followed by Pickford with 97, Engadine with 81, Brimley with 48, and DeTour with 19.

Saints Softball, Baseball Complete Regular Season, Prepare for Districts at Rudyard
Teams Combine for Three Victories in Last Week
      St. Ignace Saints baseball and softball teams completed the regular season with twinbills against the Rudyard Bulldogs, Gaylord St. Mary Snowbirds, and the Newberry Indians and are now preparing for district tournaments in Rudyard Friday, June 1.

Records Continue To Fall for Saints Jr. High Track
      Records continue to fall for the St. Ignace junior high track team as the season ended during the Straits Area Conference Meet on the home track Monday, May 21, with the Saints girls team finishing second and the boys team finishing third.

Saints Teams Both Third at SAC Meet
      The Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils boys track and field team and the Cheboygan Chiefs girls team captured the annual Straits Area Conference Meet at Cheboygan Thursday, May 24. The Blue Devils totaled 184 points to win the division. They were followed by Cheboygan with 128, St. Ignace with 75, Rogers City with 58, Rudyard with 43, and Newberry with 42.

EUP Links Feature Oldest Courses in Michigan; Total of 207 Holes of Golf
      The Eastern Upper Peninsula (EUP) provides a wonderful experience for golfers, with scenic views, two of the oldest courses in Michigan, two islands, and 15 golf courses with 207 holes. Wawashkamo Golf Club on Mackinac Island and Les Cheneaux Golf Club in Cedarville are the oldest continuously played nine-hole courses in the state.

DeTour Takes Boys and Girls EUPC Golf Championships
      The DeTour Raiders boys and girls golf teams won the two-day Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference championships at Wild Bluff in Brimley Tuesday, May 22, and The Rock on Drummond Island Thursday, May 24, a 36-hole challenge. Craig Wasnich of DeTour and Chelsey O'Connor both earned conference medalist honors.

      Brendan Baker recently earned several hockey trophies for the 2006-07 season. He is the son of Nick and Dawn Baker and grandson of Roger and Elaine Horn of St. Ignace.

DeTour X Atlantic Salmon Derby Will Be Saturday
      Hoping to capitalize on a growing Atlantic salmon fishery, DeTour Village will host its second annual DeTour X Atlantic Salmon Derby Saturday, June 2, with a shotgun start at 6 a.m. The derby will end at 4 p.m. Eighty-five percent of registration fees will be paid out in prizes, and remaining funds will be donated to the DeTour community fish cleaning station.

1st Brevort Lake Walleye Derby To Be Held June 2
      The first Brevort Lake Walleye Derby will take place from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 2. The event will help promote Moran businesses and support the Straits Area Sportsmen's Club's efforts to replenish the fish population in Brevort Lake, said event coordinator Kirk Lipnitz.
