Brevort
The past weekend was a boon to strollers on Fisherman's Drive, as there was an estate sale at Mildred Gustafson's, a garage sale at Dave Movalson's, and further east, of course, was the flea market. Everyone reported brisk sales and lots of conversations. Visiting is often as much fun as moving stuff.
Sally Conklin, Mary Lou and Frank Hogan were Sunday evening visitors at the home of Jackie and Denny Rippett.
Bob and Ellen Berry did some kayaking on Sunday and a good time was had.
As I spoke with Dot Glashaw this Monday morn, a doe and her fawn were browsing under Ms. Glashaw's apple tree in her yard. She attended her 50th LaSalle High School class reunion this week. It was a three-day affair for the 28 of 57 class members present. She is now working on the all-class reunion for 2008.
Jewels of the Straits Red Hats met at the home of Shari Baron Saturday.
Visitors at the home of Barb and Owen Jorgenson this week were Mike and Melanie Jorgenson and children, Matt and Melissa, who were returning from a visit in Wisconsin. Ralph and Tina Vitapek spent three days with the Jorgensons after a successful concert tour to Northern Michigan University and Michigan Technological University.
Don Dickmann and Kathleen McKevitt hosted friends from East Lansing this weekend. The McKevitts spent a few evenings this past week with Betty Philips, who has a home on Big Brevort Lake. A campfire on the beach made the evening more enjoyable.
Janice O'Boyle's uncle of St. Clair Shores spent the weekend with the O'Boyle family on Shore Road. Whitefish was grilled over a bonfire on the beach in front of their home. Lawrence is playing in the softball playoffs. Katelynn O'Boyle will be finishing her last semester at Lake Superior State University this fall. Janice says she will enjoy having Katelynn home for awhile, until she gets settled in Sault Ste. Marie.
Bob Jarzynka's cucumbers are just blossoming, as the nights have been too cold. Last year at this time, he and Kathy had fresh tomatoes and cucumbers to eat. It was 42 degrees at 7:15 Monday morning on Worth Road, but it warmed up quickly. Warmer weather is here.
Kyle Emblad gave the meditation at Trinity Lutheran Church Sunday and did a fine job. Jerri Rose did the liturgy as well as serving communion.
Dinner guests at our home Sunday afternoon were Dave Jr., Lorie Quigley and Joe Stewart, and Kay Allott of Sault Ste. Marie, a weekend guest of Joe and Lorie.
One has to have a garage sale if for no other reason than to have your friends and neighbors call on you and share a conversation.
We had a nice chat with Mark "the Elder" Spencer and Joan Spencer. Mrs. Spencer told me she had some lovely sunflowers that were red tinged with yellow tips on the flowers, and they were "volunteers."
It is quiet here now that Eric and Kelli, Miss Amber, and Zach have gone back to Howell. Hopefully they will get another opportunity to come back in August.
Happy birthday to Lauren Yoder and Sharon Smith July 15, Karl Yoder July 17, and Mike Jorgenson July 19. Happy anniversary to Brian and Jeanne Rose July 23.
