Margaret Leonard, of Holt, with her great-great-granddaughter, Kristin Mowatt. Summer weather means everyone is surely having fun at the Sand Dunes and other local beaches.

Margaret Leonard of Holt will mark her 97th birthday in St. Ignace Friday, August 3. A longtime visitor to the Straits area, Mrs. Leonard has been celebrating her birthdays here since the early 1950s. Family friends are members of the Bentley family in St. Ignace. In years past, Mrs. Leonard enjoyed visiting the former Kurly Que Restaurant on State Street in St. Ignace.

This year, the Budget Host Motel, where the Leonard family often stays, will host Mrs. Leonard's party, with a cake made by the Bentleys.

While Mrs. Leonard has had a challenging year owing to health problems, reported her daughter, Beverly Leonard, she has so looked forward to coming to St. Ignace to mark her milestone birthday. The family considers the motel and the town a real "home away from home," she said.

We are happy to have Mrs. Leonard and the Holt family return to St. Ignace for such a happy occasion. Best wishes.

A message came to me that Joan Massey suffered a broken hip, but is healing as well as possible.

Family and friends of Al Stempki gathered at his home to celebrate his birthday Saturday, July 21. Everyone had good visits and food.

An employee luncheon was held Thursday, July 26, at Star Line. Many favorite dishes were sampled by all.

This week at the marina, Wednesday entertainment will be provided by C&T Express at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 2, Common Cent$ will perform. Jean Kalbfleisch reports that her son, Charles, will be here from Traverse City, along with the other band members.
