What a great celebration for Mighty Mac this past weekend, with a crowded town. The fireworks were just spectacular, especially on the boulevard, where my daughter, Diane, and I landed with the Matelski family around the nicest campfire. Everyone had a wonderful visit, but it was the first time we ever saw a traffic jam on the boulevard. Lots of good memories.

Sally North reports while she and her husband, Walter, attended the Mackinac Bridge banquet Friday, July 27, they were reunited with 1957 Miss Michigan. Valerie Strong Agresta happens to be Mrs. North's cousin, and they had quite a conversation. Last week's St. Ignace News published an interview with Mrs. Agresta, and she has had an interesting life.

Kathy (nee Cronan) and Frank Feher of Montrose held an open house Friday, July 27, for many friends and family at their second home in St. Ignace. They were celebrating all the festivities in town, and also the remodeling of Ms. Feher's former home on Graham's Point, where she and her siblings grew up. Their parents are the late Katherine and Robert Cronan. The Fehers will be moving here when retirement time arrives.

Drew Marshall won tickets to see the Detroit Tigers play the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park Sunday, August 5. He won tickets for him and his family through a J.C. Penney raffle for kids. It was also nice for his brother, Landon, who was celebrating his 14th birthday. Drew's parents are Jen and Chris "Iffer" Marshall. Go Tigers!

Congratulations to Bruce Bigger Sr., who is retiring from the City Police Department after serving for 28 years, working his last day Thursday, August 2. He celebrated the end of his career by attending Detroit Tigers game with his family in Detroit Saturday, August 4.

Todd Insley, a St. Ignace Waste Management employee, returned home Monday, July 30, from Oakland, California, where he was filling in as a driver while the company and workers union were struggling with a lock-out. He was called out there about three weeks ago. We are glad he is home again, and back with his family.

Word from the St. Ignace Pond Hockey Tournament, to be held in February on the frozen waters of Moran Bay, is that the famous Hanson brothers from the classic hockey movie "Slapshot" will be guests at the tournament and will form their own team. That should be an exciting addition to an already exciting event.

Programs offered by the Hope Chest resale store will benefit from a concert by Switchback, a Chicago band, Saturday, August 11, at 7 p.m. at the St. Ignace Marina. The popular band plays blues, folk, Irish, jazz, and Americana music. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased at the concert or in advance from the Chamber of Commerce. The Hope Chest benefits people in need in our community, and volunteers there report the store on Ferry Lane has recently doubled its space to keep up with growing demand. Good news for shoppers and those who need help with food, shelter, and utilities.

Wednesday, August 8, our Locals on the Bay performers will be "Send Help." On Thursday, August 9, performers will be Boogie 2 Shooz. Many folks, young and old, are enjoying the music, while the young girls even entertain us with their favorite dances. The concerts are free of charge at the marina.

Watercraft will be buzzing in Moran Bay the weekend of August 18 and 19, as there will be close to 100 racers competing in the Midwest Watercross Tour. St. Ignace will be the host for the final two rounds of the tournament before the racers head to the national tournament in Nashville, Tennessee.

We'll look forward to seeing Police Chief Tim Matelski in the water dunk tank that Saturday, as well.

Remember our local Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon. The fresh vegetables are tasty, and there are also crafts to choose from.

Don't forget about the St. Ignace Salmon Derby Saturday, August 25. Register at the Chamber of Commerce.

Birthday greetings to Tyler Huskey, Ian Pope, Bucky Robinson, Daniel Litzner, and Landon Snyder August 4. Birthday wishes go out to Cierra Barker, Don Gustafson, Ray Laako, Landon Oliver, and David St. Andrew August 5.

Anniversary wishes go out to Mr. and Mrs. Don Sanberg August 6, Mr. and Mrs. Jack McLean August 7, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Steiner August 8, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Vallier Jr. August 10.

See everyone at the Hessel Boat Show Saturday, August 11.
