The top local news story is the wildfire north of Newberry. At the time I'm writing this, it was announced that 14,300 acres have been consumed by the fire, with no injuries reported or structures burned. Many people have donated to the Red Cross, set up at Four Mile Corner, just north of the town of Newberry. Hopefully, by the time this paper comes out, the fire will be under control.

On the third full weekend of August each year, the town of Paradise invites everyone to the Annual Wild Blueberry Festival, scheduled for Friday, August 17, through Sunday, August 19. The arts and crafts fair and wild blueberry celebration are always a fun-filled weekend. This event will be held at the Whitefish Township Community Center and is sponsored by the Paradise Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Farmers Market is going on for the season, at the Mill Pond Park Pavilion in Engadine. The market has several local farmers, with a wide array of fresh garden produce and flowers. The market is open every Saturday, until the fall, from 9 a.m. to noon.
