Space Available at Local Youth Camp August 21-24

Space is available at Angels Among Us Youth Camp, a camp serving foster children and youths ages seven to 17 who have lost a parent. Located on Lake Michigan, near Epoufette, Angels Among Us will offer children a chance to enjoy the outdoors from 8 a.m., Tuesday, August 21, through 6 p.m., Friday, August 24. Positions are also available for volunteers who would like to help run camp activities.

The program was developed by conservation officer Kellie Nightlinger, who also owns U.P. Wide Adventure Guide.

The camp is free for children in financial need, and $200 for others, she said.

The site includes separate bunkhouses for boys and girls and a studio-style building with a kitchen, bathroom, and recreation area. Activities will include kayaking, exploring caves, snorkeling near shipwrecks, backpacking, learning wilderness survival skills, and field trips to Lake Superior. Youths will also take part in games, crafts, and team-building exercises.

Miss Nightlinger is seeking nonprofit status for her camp. Donations are welcome, but are not tax-deductible. For more information about the camp, call Miss Nightlinger at (906) 430-0547.
