A wonderful fall event will be the Fiddlers Jamboree Saturday, September 22, in Newberry. This is such an exciting and enjoyable event. Audience members get a chance each year to see and hear the progress all the younger fiddlers have made since last year. Some of them progress so fast that the "oldtimers" have trouble keeping pace with them. If you attend this performance, you won't be disappointed. The food is good, too.

The Eva Burrell Animal Shelter, on US-2 in Manistique, is in need of volunteers, including dog walkers and cat cuddlers on the afternoon shift, and a shift at bedtime. If you have time to spare, they could use your help tending the animals. Call (906) 341-1000 to volunteer.

The shelter will host the Eva Burrell Craft Fair Saturday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hiawatha Community Building, 1.5 miles north of Manistique on M-94. Table rental is $10. Crafters may call Anna at (906) 341-6455 to reserve tables. Proceeds benefit the shelter.

The Community of Christ Church in Gulliver will host its 50th Harvest Supper Saturday, October 6, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church. Everyone is invited. There also will be a bake sale.

Our leaves are turning to beautiful colors, nights are cooling off a little earlier, and it's not quite as light outside when the alarm clock goes off in the morning. A time when everything slows down a little, getting ready for hibernation.

Happy birthday to Chris Keller and Evelyn DeMars, who celebrated their birthdays September 24, and Crystal Troyer September 27.

Happy wedding anniversary to Thorvid and Linda Strom, who celebrated September 21, and Ed and Gloria McGuire, who celebrated September 23. Hope you all have many more happy years.

We send condolences to the family of Delores Fisher, who passed away last week. Delores was a fun and happy person, who could always cheer everyone up. Her family and friends will greatly miss her.

Stay safe and stay well. See you next week.
