John 'Herby' McGee Jr.
John "Herby" McGee Jr. of St. Ignace served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1974, and worked as an all-around deckhand on off-shore boats in Morgan City, Louisiana. Mr. McGee died at the age of 55 Thursday, September 20, 2007, at Mackinac Straits Hospital emergency room in St. Ignace. He had been in poor health for several months.
He was born September 18, 1952, in Galveston, Texas, to John Herman and Ermina (nee Gomez) McGee.
Mr. McGee worked on shore for the company serving the off-shore oil rigs for many years. He moved to St. Ignace seven years ago.
Mr. McGee is survived by a brother and his family, Robert and Jackie Wenning of Franklin, Louisiana; two sisters and their families, Janie and Jim Gamble of St. Ignace and Mary and James Bridges of Texas City, Texas; two nephews, and one grand-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Collis "Skippy" Wenning.
Amemorial service was Tuesday, September 25, at the Assembly of God Church in St. Ignace. Pastor Bob Moody officiated.
Dodson Funeral Home of St. Ignace assisted the family with arrangements.
