County Clerks Can Perform Marriages

A change in state law now allows county clerks to perform marriage ceremonies.

Mackinac County Clerk Mary Kay Tamlyn told county commissioners the news Tuesday, January 2, noting that clerks around the state are charging from $20 to $50 for the service. Upon her recommendation, commissioners approved a fee of $20 to the county for any marriage she conducts.

Mrs. Tamlyn said those interested should call ahead to arrange a time. Her office is on the first floor of the County Courthouse. The clerk's telephone number is 643- 7300.
