George Groulx

George E. Groulx, 89, of Newberry worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps, was a decorated United States veteran, and enjoyed a career in the construction industry. Mr. Groulx died Sunday, December 31, 2006, at the Luce County Annex in Newberry.

He was born December 7, 1917, in Detroit to George J. and Eva M. (nee Hall) Groulx. He lived for most of his life in the Bay City area.

As a young man, Mr. Groulx was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked on the family farm. He was proud of his country and served in the United States Army during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and was a Purple Heart of Valor recipient. Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Groulx was employed in the construction industry until his retirement in 1980. His employment included working with the H.C. Weber Construction Company of Bay City. Throughout his life, Mr. Groulx maintained an active interest and curiosity about nature, wildlife, and current events.

Survivors include his sisters, Ellen Kenny of Drummond Island, Elsie Diamond of Mount Morris, and Mary Jane Groulx of Drummond Island, three nieces, and six nephews.

Mr. Groulx was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Roy and Floyd, and a sister, Violet Kalke.

A memorial mass will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Bay City.

Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry is assisting the family.
