Stanley Michalski

Stanley Michalski
Stanley Peter Michalski, 79, of Stalwart, enjoyed a 35-year career working at the Drummond Dolomite Quarry, and worked simultaneously on the family farm. Mr. Michalski died Thursday, January 4, 2007, at Chippewa County War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. At the time of his death, Mr. Michalski living on the farm where he was born.

He was born October 17, 1927, in Stalwart, to John and Mary (nee Jankowski) Michalski.

He served in the United States Army in the Philippines near the end of World War II.

Mr. Michalski married Virginia Belle Rice November 8, 1947, at the St. Stanislaus Rectory in Goetzville.

He worked for a few years in logging and construction before beginning a career at Drummond Dolomite Quarry, where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 1987. Through all those years and for many years after retiring, Mr. Michalski also worked on the family farm.

Mr. Michalski especially enjoyed listening to country music, and friends said he always had the radio on.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; three daughters and their families, Barbara Pierce of Sault Ste. Marie, Betty Letarte of Roselle, Illinois, and Beverly and Tim Arman of Pickford; three sons and their families, David and Valerie Michalski of Copemish, Thomas and Mary Jean Michalski of Pickford, and Richard Michalski of Goetzville; 16 grandchildren and their families, Lori Maris, Jennifer Spencer, Scott and Patricia Michalski, Emily and Kevin Sharpe, Nikki and James Lumsden, Valanie Michalski, Travis and Sandy Michalski, Ginger and Jason Wallace, Brock Michalski, Ramsey Michalski, Marlee Michalski, Zachary Michalski, Jessica Arman, Katie Arman, Skyler Olmstead, and Austin Olmstead; and 24 greatgrandchildren, Andrew, Alexander, Sydney, Chelsea, Kelsey, Kayla, Dylan, Davin, Kia, April, Kevin, Kalob, Kody, Nicholas, Mitchell, Madalyn, Quincy, Ramsey, Gavin, Shaunna, Hunter, Allisa, Zachary, and Hailey. Also surviving are one sister, Mary Czanstke, one stepsister, Helen Smolack, one stepbrother, Walter Krzyckik, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Michalski was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Valeena Michalski, two sisters, Emily Dobrzyniewiaz and an infant, Eve Michalski, five brothers, Joseph, Louis, John, Frank, and Adam Michalski; a stepsister, Mary Wirt, and two stepbrothers, John Krzycki and an infant, Mike Krzycki.

Visitation was held Saturday, January 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford, with a service following at 1:30 p.m. with Deacon Ron Andrzejewski officiating.

Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township.
