Mackinaw City Posts Victories Over Swordsmen, Vikings

Mackinaw City improved to 6-1 on season and 3-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) after defeating Harbor Light Christian 56-51 in an NLC match-up Friday, January 5, and 78-35 over Alanson in a non-conference contest Saturday, January 6.

Comets Down Rival Swordsmen

"This was a team win that we needed at Harbor Light," said Comets Coach Garth Law. "We got in foul trouble in the first quarter and received bench help. Nick Dullack came off the bench and played well at both ends of the court."

The first and fourth quarters made the difference for the Comets, as Mackinaw City led 19- 12 after the first eight minutes before scoring the final six points of the second quarter to take a 30-25 halftime lead.

T h e Swordsmen hit a triple with six seconds on the clock for a 42-40 lead late in the third quarter, but the Comets' Trevor Closs answered with a trey in the closing seconds for a 43-40 lead that spearheaded Mackinaw City to a 13-9 advantage in the final period.

Mackinaw City Downs Alanson

The Comets led 17-4 after the first eight minutes and never looked back in their win over the Vikings.

Mackinaw City outscored Alanson 26-11 in the second quarter for a 43-15 halftime lead and held a 35-20 advantage in the second half en route to the non-league win.
