LaSalle Girls Win First Bowling Match

The LaSalle High School girls bowling team won its first Northern M i c h i g a n B o w l i n g C o n f e r e n c e match in the four-year history of the program with a win over Gaylord, and the St. Ignace boys made it a clean sweep against the Blue Devils with a win Saturday, January 6, at the Gateway Lanes in St. Ignace.

"This was a great day for the girls program and, with the boys winning, it made it that much more special," said Saints Coach Terri Allan. "The girls have waited a long time for their first win, but haven't given up on themselves."

The girls started with two baker wins (alternate frame bowling). In the first game, the Saints won 207 to 146 and in the second match edged the Blue Devils 128 to 126, for a total of 335 to 262.

"During the 207 game the girls did not have an open frame," added the coach.

St. Ignace girls held on for a 1357 to 1356 series win in the individual games led by Melissa Brown and Anna Krause, who recorded 1-1 r e c o r d s Brown bowled a 282 series (145-137) and Krause 261 (135-126); finishing 1-0 were Misty Gamble with 146, Desi Allan 114, and Sara Tafelski 107, Brooke Allan 0-1 with 134, and Meghann Colegrove 0-2 with series of 313 (161-152).

Saints Boys Post Big Numbers

St. Ignace boys won their baker games with a total of 374 to 336 that included games of 196 to 187 and 178 to 149, and won the individual team score with a 1961 to 1762.

The trio of Chris Binger, T r e s t i n Fogelsonger, and Derek Rutledge all finished with 2-0 r e c o r d s . Binger led the Saints with t w o - g a m e series of 474 ( 2 2 8 - 2 4 6 ) , Fogelsonger added 391 (217-174), and Rutledge chipped in 366 (191-175).

Andy Mullins was 1-0 with a single game of 219, Jeffrey Gamble 1-0 with a score of 191, Jamin Corwin 0-1 with 185, and Josh Feldman 0-1 with 135.

St. Ignace will travel to Gaylord for the Saturday, January 13, Northern Michigan Bowling Conference match-ups.
