The bean soup and corn bread cook-off fundraiser at the Fogcutter Bar last weekend was a huge success. All proceeds were donated to the EUP Fine Arts Council to be put toward the future renovation of their building, formerly the Catholic hall.

There were 18 soup entries and 10 corn bread entries. Winners of the soup contest are as follows: Pauline Gross, first place; Dave Rhinard, second place, and George Leonard, third place.

Winners of the corn bread contest are as follows: Nancy Miller, first place; Barb Grisdale, second place, and Angie Leonard, third place. Congratulations to all the winners. The judges had a difficult task in selecting the winners and they are to be commended for a job well done. Barb Snider handed out to the winners some humorous gifts. Dave Rhinard had a great evening, not only placing second in the soup contest, but winning the 50/50 raffle. A great time was had by all.

Mark your calendar for events coming up this month. There will be a benefit for Joe Dumbeck Saturday, January 20, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Gibby's Bar in Goetzville. There is an $8 donation for dinner, which includes roast pork, smoked turkey, baked potato, salads, and desserts, plus one ticket for the door prize. There will be the ever-popular 50/50 drawing.

The DeTour Village Council held its regular monthly meeting Monday, December 18. Following are excerpts from the very short meeting:

The entrance to the Industrial Park is well under way. Rob Bloch will be contacted to find out about getting the paperwork done for the first draw from the grant money to pay Fountain Trucking and Wade- Trim.

Street Commissioner Richard Newland informed the Council of a new state report that is mandatory for all villages, townships, and counties to file each year. It involves keeping records of all our streets and any work that has been done on them throughout the fiscal year.

The part-time operator position for the water plant has been tabled until the full Council can meet together for a decision.

The above excerpts are as recorded by Village Clerk Linda Fisher.

A thought: Conquest is easy, control is not.
