Snowsfest 2007 Events Announced Snowsfest in Clark Township will celebrate winter with a 2007 theme, Wintertime Fun, and is scheduled for Friday, February 16, through Sunday, February 18. It is organized by the Les Cheneaux Chamber of Commerce. This year's Snowsfest will be in Cedarville, and most events will take place on land, if the ice is not strong enough to support a tent on the bay. New this year is a Snowbuddies project, which involves decorating wooden snowman forms. The forms will be offered to area residents and businesses, and participants can decorate them however they want. Snowbuddies will be made of plywood and will be sold for $10 each at First National Bank of St. Ignace, Les Cheneaux Branch, or the Les Cheneaux Welcome Center, both in Cedarville. Snow sculptures and window decorations will also be judged by the Snowsfest Committee. Most Snowsfest events are expected to take place around Cedarville and the craft show and cardboard sled races will be at Les Cheneaux Community Schools. Some events hosted by the Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club will be at the Snowmobile Clubhouse on Blindline Road. Clay pigeon shoots Saturday and Sunday will be at the Les Cheneaux Sportsman's Club east of Cedarville. The cross-country ski tour will be at Peek-A-Boo Trail, off West State Avenue, north of Cedarville. Friday will include the traditional snowman burning and bonfire, the blessing of the snowmobiles, and a snowmobile safari and hot dog roast at the Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Clubhouse. Nearly 20 activities are scheduled for Saturday, including a pancake breakfast at the Snowmobile Club, craft show, poker run, chili cook-off, children's games, snow hut building demonstration, horse drawn hay rides, dogsled rides, a dog show, and snowshoe race. Snowshoe race organizer Jessie Hadley said people of all fitness levels can participate, with prizes awarded by age. The event is free, and participants should sign up before the event by calling Woods and Water Ecotours at 484-4157. Sunday's events include a clay pigeon shoot and cardboard sled races. The committee plans to sponsor a clue hunt by posting a different clue each week until Snowsfest in The St. Ignace News. The clues will refer to a Cedarville or Hessel business where a prize is hidden. The first person to correctly identify the business will win the prize. Details will be announced next week. Volunteers are needed for all Snowsfest activities, and anyone who wants to help should call the Les Cheneaux Welcome Center at (906) 484-3935, or stop by the center on M-134 in Cedarville. |
