Injured Beagle Is 'Covered' Owing to Generous Donors

A news article about an injured beagle reported in last week's St. Ignace News prompted so many people to send money to pay for the animal's medical care that veterinarian Mary Alban has now called for people to stop sending checks to this cause.

Dr. Alban suggested January 16 that people who want to help pets in the county may instead direct any donations to Mackinac Animal Aid Association at the Mackinac County Animal Shelter.

"People have been so generous that further donations to 'Minnie' are not necessary - she's covered," Dr. Alban said of the beagle, which was found injured and emaciated in early January in the western part of the county. "I wouldn't want people to feel like they have to send any more donations for this dog.

"She is recuperating and her wounds are healing nicely," continued Dr. Alban.. I was very touched by how many people responded."
