L.C. Education Foundation Art Chair Auction Project Started The Les Cheneaux Education Foundation's Art Chair project has started, and anyone who wants to decorate a chair can pick one up at the Les Cheneaux Elementary School office during regular school hours, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prospective artists can also use their own chairs. This is the second annual fundraising auction for the Education Foundation, which supports local theater productions, awards art camp scholarships to fine and performing arts students, and helps pay for extracurricular activities and educational enhancements for the Les Cheneaux Community Schools district. Last year, the organization raised more than $1,500 for the foundation through a successful silent auction of tables decorated by local artists and volunteers. As with last year's auction, the chairs will be displayed in July at the Les Cheneaux Community Library, and bidding will take place there. The auction is expected to end in July. Chairs must be completed by volunteers by mid-June. Any artist or craft person who wants to build and decorate an original chair is welcome to do so, otherwise, they can exercise their creativity on the chairs provided by the foundation. Solid wooden chairs are preferred, but chairs can also be made of plastic, metal, particle board, or whatever can be painted on or decorated. People who work on chairs can add a new back, new legs, wings, or other embellishments, and they can use any type of medium to decorate the chair. They will receive 50 percent of the selling price of the chair. All artist participants must register with the foundation by calling Joanna Izzard or Kate Ter Haar at Les Cheneaux Community Schools, at (906) 484-2256. Mrs. Izzard can also be reached at home at (906) 484-3012, and Mrs. Ter Haar's home number is (906) 484-3610. |
