Fredrick Cobe Jr. Fredrick Cobe Jr., 69, of Essexville, was a United States Army veteran who worked as a diesel mechanic. Mr. Cobe died Thursday, January 11, 2007, at the home of his daughter in Alma. He was born August 9, 1937, in Escanaba to Fredrick and Rita Cobe. His father died while serving in World War II, and he was reared by his mother and stepfather, William Dumas. Upon graduation from high school, Mr. Cobe entered the Army and served in Korea. He married Judith Miller September 22, 1962, in St. Ignace. Mr. Cobe worked as a diesel mechanic for many farmers in Gratiot and Isabella counties and retired from AIS in Bridgeport in 2002. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Bay City and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Cobe is survived by three children and their families, Jeffery and ReaMel Cobe of Indian River, Darcy and Shawn Kinder of Alma, and David Cobe of North Star, a special family friend, Michelle Howes, and five grandchildren. He is survived by two brothers and their families, Vic and Carol Dumas and Bobby Joe and Velda Dumas, and a sister, Patsey Wyers, all of St. Ignace. Mr. Cobe was preceded in death by his parents, his father, his wife, who died September 9, 1995, a brother, William Dumas, and a sister, Arlene Cobe. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
