Four Saints Grapplers Each 5-0 at Hurons' Super Dual

Four St. Ignace wrestlers finished with undefeated (5-0) records during the Rogers City Hurons Super Dual Tournament Saturday, January 13.

Derek Marshall, wrestling in weight divsions of 171 pounds through 189 pounds, earned four pins, while Sam Fitzpatrick (125) and Brandon Garries (119) earned two pins, and Shawn Cowell (140) recorded one pin. The Saints recorded a 3-2 team record and improved to 18-5 on the season after defeating Charlevoix 48-23, Newberry 71-6, and Oscoda 51-12, losing to Alpena 48-29 and the host Hurons 51-22.

"Overall I was pleased with our effort after the strong bracket we ended up in," said Saints Coach Harvey Bentley.

James Sayles (215-pound, heavyweight division) finished 4-1 with his only defeat coming in overtime; Tyler Oja (130) was 3-1 with one pin, and Mario Calcaterra (135) finished 3-2.

Registering 2-3 records were Rob Robinson (145), Steffan Saffian (152), and Lee Kelso (189- 171), Mike McNeely (112) and Nate Tamlyn.

John Evashevski (130) suffered a cut that needed stitches and was unable to continue during his first and only match.

St. Ignace will compete in the Munising Invitational Saturday, January 20.

Parents Night for the St. Ignace wrestlers will be held Thursday, January 25 at the middle school. The opponents will be Rogers City and Rudyard.
