Island Schools Battle on Hardwood

Lakers Split NLL Games

With Islanders

In the battle between the only two island schools affiliated with the Michigan High School Athletic Association, Mackinac Island and Beaver Island basketball teams split their weekend series, with the host Lakers winning 58-54 Friday, January 12, and the Islanders taking a 72-53 decision Saturday, January 13.

"This was a tale of two games," said Lakers Coach Jim Fisher. "We moved the ball on offense and 22 of our 36 first-half points were off assists on Friday. During the Saturday game, our lack of defense was the key."

Saturday's game was a different story as Beaver Island opened the game with a 25- 7 lead after the first eight minutes and the Lakers could not catch up as the Islanders led 36-20 and outscored Mackinac Island 36-33 in the second half.
