Gros Cap School To Call for Three-Year Millage Renewal

      Tuesday, May 8, residents in Moran Township will be asked to vote on candidates for two open school board seats currently occupied by Nancy Dandona and Mike Cope. They will also be asked to pass a renewal millage to fund Gros Cap School for the next three years.

      Les Cheneaux Community Schools Board of Education agreed to the use of Wednesday nights for athletic games, if it becomes necessary, and voted to raise the school's fee for driver education by $75.

Snowmobile Club Gets New Groomer

      Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club will have its first chance to test a new trail groomer this month now that the area finally received some fresh snow. The new groomer, a 160 horsepower Piston Bully "Trail Bully," arrived the first week of December but has sat quietly at the clubhouse awaiting snow.

County's First DNA Criminal Case Yields Sentence for Indiana Man

      Thirty-six-year-old Robert Day of Indiana was sentenced to 18 to 40 years in prison Friday, January 19, for raping an elderly St. Ignace woman at her home in October 2000. Mr. Day will be returned to Indiana to continue serving prison time for a similar conviction in that state.
