Brevort We can't complain about the weather, as it could be much worse, like it is in the mid-section of the country. They've said many times, "This is God's country," and we have to believe it is truly the place we love to be. Sharon Chalmers is expected home tonight after a week's vacation at Barefoot Bay in Florida. She and her sister, Andrea Gault of Birmingham, visited their brother, Wayne. They're all avid golfers, so they enjoyed golfing. Trinity Lutheran Church in Brevort had its annual meeting and potluck dinner Sunday afternoon in the fellowship hall. We charted our plans for the upcoming year, including a trip to North Carolina to work on a Habitat for Humanity home in the northern part of the state. Plans are tentative, but many members are enthusiastic about another project, following the trip to New Orleans last year. Pega Kennedy will organize the weekly luncheons at Trinity beginning Wednesday, January 31. This is a community event and all are welcome. Joe Chalmers blessed our food following the meeting with a Celtic grace, referring to being responsible for ourselves and thanking God we're able to do that with his grace. Prayers for Sally Conklin, who is home in Shelby Township recovering nicely (but not quickly enough for Sally) from a new knee replacement. Jackie Rippett and I have both called her to assure her it will get better, as we both know from experience. Please keep Lara Gustafson in your thoughts and prayers as she recovers at home in Brevort from surgery. Jim and Ann Dyer and Dot Glashaw drive to Engadine every Tuesday and Thursday for senior citizen dinners that are ample and enjoyable, plus socializing with friends and neighbors. Crystal Giordani is on the President's List at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey. She maintained a 4.0 grade point average all last semester. Congratulations, Crystal. She will be starting an internship at the Rogers City Medical Group in conjunction with her studies. She is doing part-time medical transcription in Petoskey. Crystal will be graduated in May. Dot Glashaw and Shari Baron attended the Red Hat meeting Saturday, January 20, at the home of Rosalie Robinson in St. Ignace. Plans were discussed for the upcoming Red Hat convention to be held this summer in St. Ignace. Pega Kennedy spent a week in Jacksonville, Florida, with her daughter, Cassie Becker. They toured historic St. Augustine, where they enjoyed lovely weather. Pega recommends "Dream Girls," as she and Cassie saw the movie. Unfortunately, Pega has been dealing with bronchitis since she came home this week, but she's doing better now. John is also dealing with health issues and is under the care of doctors. Ellen and Bob Berry have been trying out the cross-country ski trails in the area. Last week they skied near Sault Ste. Marie. The trails were good. Sharon Smith is digging into some of the family archives they've been collecting for many years, such as records of the fish lifts, weather, and births. It's a trip into the past. Lawrence O'Boyle has been to our house a couple of times this week getting information on the history of Brevort. Dave and I have quite a few old pictures from a few families that lived in Brevort at the turn of the century and the early 1900s, fishing, timbering, gardening, and making maple syrup. Jamica Diamond, with the able assistance of her neighbor, Jason McCory, is renovating her 1972 Opal GT. With all the plans and work, this will be an awesome vehicle when completed. Congratulations to the St. Ignace Saints boys basketball team. Dave and I missed Friday's games in Rogers City, but will be on the top row Tuesday, January 23. Can't wait to see the shaved heads. James Peterson, what did you start? What fun. There are two female miniature pinschers at the animal shelter on Cheeseman Road. Jo Ford thought to call me as we became so attached to Chippy, the miniature dachshund belonging to Pat Smith and Tracy Movalson, but we're not quite ready for the responsibility of caring for a dog. We appreciate the call, Jo. |
