Winter has arrived, which makes most people happy; the rest of us are looking forward to spring.

The quietness has settled in on our tiny towns, with few activities except for the weekly basketball games, which are always a nice diversion.

The phone calls from various parts of Florida indicate the snow birds are enjoying the sunshine and warm temperatures, which makes our corner of the world long for those same warm temperatures and sunshine. Many folks in the area are planning trips to the sunshine state for spring break.

Birthday wishes to Esther Bigelow, who celebrated January 16, Luke Formolo January 19, our nephew, Leon Derusha, January 22, Kathy Miller and her daughter, Jessica, January 23, my "budding actress" niece, Jamie Maison, and Katie Kerridge January 25, and Janet Tippett and Devon Derusha January 28.

Anniversary wishes to Wayne and Donita Flatt, who celebrated January 20.

Get well wishes to Shirley Rooney, Dovie Caswell, Harold Derusha, and Rick Rooney, who are all in various stages of recovery, and to all the folks who are dealing with the "bug" that seems to be going around.
