Eino Wilfred Aho, 91, of Hessel, was a World War II veteran who enjoyed a career with Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing in Detroit. Mr. Aho died Tuesday, January 16, 2007, in Cheboygan.
He was born November 5, 1915, in Rudyard, to Matt and Anna (nee Kukolan) Aho.
He grew up in Rudyard and worked for several years logging and farming. During World War II, Mr. Aho served in the United States Army in Central Europe. In 1952, he moved to the Detroit area, where he worked for Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M). When he retired from 3M in 1977, he moved to his current home on the Pine River in St. Ignace Township.
Mr. Aho enjoyed gardening, yard work, wood splitting, fishing, and hunting.
He is survived by one daughter, Anita Johnson of Canton; one son and his family, Darwin and Paula Aho of Wasilla, Alaska; two grandchildren and their families, Carie and William Kober and Bradley and Ariane Aho; and four greatgrandchildren, Kambree and Sayr Aho, and Josiah and Ashton Kober. Also surviving is one sister and her family, Ruth and Charles Touple of Sault Ste. Marie.
Mr. Aho was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, five sisters, Ann Niemi, Lempi Koski, Mayme Keranen, Ida Wuori, and Aili Haapala, and five brothers, Edward, Arthur, Ervin, Urho, and Wayne Aho.
Services were held Sunday, January 21, at 2:30 p.m. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford, with the Reverend Katheryn King officiating. Friends called at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral.
Spring burial will be in North Rudyard Cemetery in Kinross Township.
