Les Cheneaux School Hosts Artist Program

Les Cheneaux Community Schools has launched its Artist in Residence program at the elementary school, bringing color to the halls in the middle of winter.

The program started Thursday, January 11, and has already highlighted the skills of watercolor painter Norine Rudd, Kate Ter Haar, and Pat Feldhake, and cake maker and decorator Ronda McGreevy. The remaining schedule of demonstrators follows. Demonstrations are from noon to 2:50 p.m., and some will include hands-on activity for students.

Thursday, February 1, the mother and daughter pair of Elda Nye of Hessel and Jeri Griffin of Cedarville will demonstrate basket making to students.

Thursday, February 8, will include a demonstration by multiple media artist Kate Otstot of Hessel, who will show how she makes glass beads.

Thursday, February 15, professional photographer Tom Coyne of Cedarville will talk about his business.

Thursday, February 22, Cedarville blacksmith Randy Dunn will display and talk about his metal art.

Thursday, March 1, Brent Heerspink will demonstrate how he and his family make pottery at their studio north of Hessel.

Thursday, March 8, Heidi Labinski of Cedarville will present an art form that will be announced at a later date.

Thursday, March 15, Rick Shapero will demonstrate and talk about his skills in glass-blowing, an art form he exercises at his Cedarville studio. That day, students will be bused to the studio, where they will see the demonstration on site.

Thursday, March 22, Annegret Goehring will be the final demonstrator, presenting the Ukrainian art of intricately decorated eggs.

Anyone can visit the school to view the artist demonstrations.
