Mary Hermanson

Mary L. Hermanson of Newberry was a former health care service employee who worked throughout Michigan, including at Henry Ford Hospital in the Detroit area, in Mount Pleasant, and at St. Francis of Escanaba. In 1976, she moved to Newberry, and continued working at the former Newberry Regional Mental Health Center, and later as a registered nurse at the Helen Newberry Joy Hospital until her 1998 retirement. She also owned and operated Johnny's Bar in Newberry.

Mrs. Hermanson died early Sunday morning, January 28, 2007, at her seasonal residence in Curtis, under the care of North Woods Hospice. She was 67 years old.

She was born June 22, 1939, to Ervin and Helen (nee Adams) Guinn, and was a 1956 graduate of Avondale High School, and a 1960 graduate of Henry Ford School of Nursing. She married Ronald J. Hermanson in 1961.

Her hobbies and interests included flower gardening, collecting antiques, and reading. She was a supporter of local charity organizations, including the Newberry Goodfellows.

Mrs. Hermanson was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald, in 1985, and by her father, Ervin.

Survivors include her three sons, John of Curtis, Ron of Kodiak, Alaska, and Jim of Ann Arbor, her mother, Helen Guinn of Cheboygan, and two brothers and their families, William and Susan Guinn of Cheboygan and Ervin Jr. and Phyllis Guinn of Au Gres.

A service will be Friday, February 2, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry.

Donations in memory of Mrs. Hermanson can be made to the Luce County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
