Genevieve Jonas

Genevieve Jonas of St. Ignace was a longtime area resident who was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Allenville, American Legion, and a life member of the Order of Eastern Starts, Primrose Chapter.

She died Friday, January 26, 2007, at Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace.

She was born September 5, 1923, in St. Ignace, to Walter and Josephine (Baschor) Nichols. She was graduated from LaSalle High School.

She married James R. Jonas, and they lived in St. Ignace for several years, while Mr. Jonas worked as a senior electrician on the state car ferry Vacationland.

The Jonases moved to Alpena in 1957, and then Portland, where they owned a small farm while Mr. Jonas worked in Lansing. Following Mr. Jonas' December 19, 1985 retirement, they moved to Trout Lake, then back to St. Ignace in 1995.

Mrs. Jonas was preceded in death by her husband January 28, 2003, and by a brother, Edwin.

She is survived by a son, James Nicholas Jonas of Colorado; a brother and his family, Darwin and Shirley Nichols of Naubinway; one granddaughter; one greatgrandson, and special friends Susan and Dan Fenlon of St. Ignace.

There will be no services at this time.

Dodson Funeral Home of St. Ignace assisted the family with arrangements.
