Lakers Remain Unbeaten in NLL Basketball After Two Wins

Mackinac Island Lakers remain undefeated in the Northern Light League after victories over Paradise, a 77-57 win Friday, January 26, and Munising Baptist, winning 62- 39 Tuesday, January 23.

Wo o d y B e a r d s l e y scored 37 points, made 17 rebounds, and had eight of the team's record 25 steals to carry the Lakers over Paradise.

"We have been averaging 12 steals per game, but against Paradise, our pressure defense was effective and we came away with 25 steals," said Lakers Coach Jim Fisher.

The Lakers led 18-9 after the first eight minutes and outscored the Rockets 21-16 in the second quarter for a 39-25 halftime lead.

Mackinac Island held a 50-40 lead after three quarters before a 27-17 advantage in the final period lifted the Lakers to the road win.

Lakers Down Bobcats in NLL

Mackinac Island led 36-11 at halftime before the Bobcats held a 28-26 margin in the second half.

The Lakers will fly to Beaver Island to face the Islanders in a key NLL match-up Friday, February 2, and Saturday, February 3.

Mackinac Island finished 4-5 during the Ellsworth Junior V a r s i t y Vo l l e y b a l l Invitational. Lakers Michi Mullings and D a n i e l l e Wi g h t m a n were named to the All- Tournament Team Saturday, January 27.

The Lakers defeated Charlevoix 25-20 and 25- 22, split with the host Lancers 25- 22 and 17-25, NMCA 18-25 and 25-23, fell to Gaylord St. Mary 23-25 and 15-25 in pool play, and lost to the St. Mary Snowbirds 27-35 in medal play.

Mackinac Island fell to Paradise 17-25, 17-25, and 21- 25 during a Northern Lights League match Friday, January 26.
