LETTER TO THE EDITOR This is a response to Frank Luepnitz's letter that was published in the February 8 issue of The St. Ignace News. I totally agree with the headline, "Voters want elected, not appointed road commission." As a person who travels approximately 600 miles per week from the east portion of Mackinac to the west end and the northwestern corner, I get the opportunity to talk to many citizens about the county roads and the Road Commission. I have found from my discussions that the people want a five-member road commission and they want to be able to elect this board. They also seem to be favoring a district situation. Currently, we have two commissioners from the Moran area and one from Engadine. It seems perfectly logical that the road commission be comprised of members from all the areas covering the county. Having had the opportunity to attend many of the township board meetings throughout the county, I know the condition of our roads is very high on the priority list of Mackinac County residents.
If you agree and want a responsible, informed Road Commission, please contact your County Board of Commissioners representative and tell them how you feel. They are the ones who will ultimately make the decision on how our road commission will be structured. |
