Program Planned for Women in Farming

The 16th Annual Farm Women's Symposium will be at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Mount Pleasant Wednesday, March 7, through Friday, March 9. The program is intended to bring together both women and men who are involved in agriculture.

Laurie Young of Decatur-based Laughter Works and Jolene Brown of West Branch, Iowa, will present sessions. Topics will include how to deal with changes in agriculture, such as environmental issues, technology, animal welfare, labor and global markets, and avoiding the pitfalls of running a family farm.

Other activities will include a bus tour to Graham Organic Farm and Morbark Inc., in Winn. Participants will receive a legislative update, information on health and fitness, and aging. The program will end with a talk about the workplace by Barry Schreier of Purdue University.
