Chase Closs scored his 1,000th career point during Mackinaw City's 81-32 Northern Lakes League win over Wolverine Friday, February 9, improving the team's league record to 8-1.
Coming into the game, the Mackinaw City senior needed two points to reach the milestone. At the 5:27 mark of the first quarter, Closs scored off an in-bounds pass under the Comets' basket. He closed out the game with 12 points.
Closs recorded 758 points in his first three years of his career at Mackinaw City, scoring 237 points in each of first two seasons and 304 points last year as a junior. Since 1990, Closs joins the elite 1,000- point scorers list that includes Eric LaChapelle, Willie Beach, and Morgan Paquet.
The Comets, 12-3 on the season, were on fire hitting their first six field goals for a 15-4 lead at the 5:10 mark as Logan Paquet scored eight with two three-pointers, Barry Paquet added one triple, and brothers Trevor and Chase Closs chipped in two points.

Mackinaw City held a 23-11 lead after the first eight minutes and continued the torrid shooting with a 20-8 advantage in the second quarter for a 43-19 half-time lead.
The Comets offense collected 10 three-point field goals for the game, six in the second half, that lifted Mackinaw City to a 38-13 advantage in the combined third and fourth quarters, including a 21- 6 run in the third period and 17-7 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes.

Hornets Sting Comets
Pellston upended Mackinaw City 67-60 during a non-conference contest Tuesday, February 6.
The Hornets held an 11-10 scoring edge after the first eight minutes and outscored the Comets 24- 17 in the second quarter for a 35-17 halftime score.
Pellston built a 50-39 lead with a 15-12 scoring advantage in the third quarter before Mackinaw City closed the margin to seven with a 21-17 score in the final period.
