Fitzpatrick, Garries Earn SAC Titles for Saints

Sam Fitzpatrick St. Ignace

Rogers City won the overall team title, while St. Ignace senior Sam Fitzpatrick and junior Brandon Garries earned individual title honors during the Straits Area Conference championships Saturday, February 10, at Newberry High School.

Rogers City finished first with a team score of 169 points, followed by Sault High with 133, Onaway, 123.5, Mio 122, St. Ignace 117.5, Cheboygan 73, Rudyard 68, and Newberry 27.

"We were just a couple wins from finishing second or third," said Saints Coach Harvey Bentley.

Fitzpatrick, competing in the 1 2 5 - p o u n d weight category, finished the day with a 3-0 record while Garries (119) went 2-0. Placing second were Derek Marshall (171), with a 2-1 record, and James Sayles (215) and Shawn Cowell (140), who both finished with a 1-1 record.

Mike Mc- Neely (112) finished third with a 2-1 record and John Evashevski (130) took fourth at 1-2. The Saints were open at the 103, 189, and heavyweight divisions.

Saints Host Districts

Wednesday, Feb. 14th at LHS

St. Ignace will host the district wrestling tournaments Wednesday, February 14, at LaSalle High School.

The opening round will feature Charlevoix and Rudyard at 6 p.m., with the winner to battle the Saints for the championship.
